IGTC's role is to act as charterer of the required shipping and North West Shelf Shipping’s role is to provide a wide range of shipping services to IGTC.

Key features are:

IGTC makes the main commercial decisions establishes operating standards, giving each parent company an equal say in these critical areas.

North West Shelf Shipping provides shipping advice and support to IGTC acting within the established protocols of a service agreement.

Ship management requires expertise in LNG Shipping and access to experienced and professional seagoing staff. Ship managers are drawn from STASCo (Shell), BP Shipping and Chevron Shipping. Shell Tankers Australia mans and manages the Australian flagged ships.

Seven of the ships are owned directly by the NWS shipping participants and bareboat chartered to the Venture.

This structure has worked well in operation and meets the needs of  the various stakeholders. The NWS shipping venture has established an excellent safety and reliability record and is highly respected in the LNG industry for its proactive approach continuously improving safety, quality and operational performance.
