North West Shelf Shipping is the main shipping adviser to International Gas Transportation Company Limited (IGTC), the Bermuda-registered parent shipping company of the North West Shelf Venture participants, and was established in 1985 in Melbourne, Victoria before relocating offices to Perth, Western Australia.
Both IGTC and North West Shelf Shipping are owned by the North West Shelf Venture participants who are BHP Billiton Petroleum (North West Shelf) Pty Ltd, BP Developments Australia Pty Ltd, Chevron Australia Pty Ltd, Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty Ltd, Shell Development (Australia) Pty Ltd and Operator Woodside Energy Ltd.
An incorporated entity, IGTC is responsible for making key commercial decisions and establishing operating standards on behalf of the Venture participants. North West Shelf Shipping provides advice and expertise to assist IGTC in managing the North West Shelf Venture's fleet of seven owned LNG carriers and various time charters.
In this capacity we are responsible for providing operational, commercial, marine assurance and technical expertise to support the safe, efficient and reliable transportation of LNG from Australia's North West Shelf to the Venture's long term customers in Japan, South Korea and China, and occasionally other destinations.
North West Shelf Shipping has safely and reliably delivered more than 2,400 LNG cargoes to the North West Shelf Venture's North Asian customers since 1989, when the Venture began producing LNG for international export.
The North West Shelf Venture owns seven LNG ships, while the Japanese registered vessels, the Northwest Swift and the Northwest Swallow, are time chartered to the Venture.
